Barleycove’s newest EP, “Fairytales”, is a dream come true for creator and singer-songwriter, Laura Jones.
In creating the EP, Laura had the opportunity to collaborate with some of her teenage heroes; three former members from the incredible 90s band “Jellyfish”. Eric Dover, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Tim Smith created a new band, and released an album under the new name, “The Lickerish Quartet” in 2020.
Laura having worked with Eric on previously released tracks, jumped at the opportunity of having the gentlemen work with her on a track.
Barleycove makes it difficult to pinpoint a genre with such varied tracks, and talent from a wide spectrum of music. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by bluegrass virtuoso, Andrew Crawford, you will hear his guitar and bass expertise throughout. The masterful playing of former Jump, Little Children’s founding members and cellist, Ward Williams, can be heard on “Hide Away” and “Oz Unveiled”. Sterling Waite, of The Reedy River String Band, showcases his fiddle finesse on “No More”. Upstate troubadour and “Acoustic Goodness”, LC Branch adds his guitar and vocal talents to a couple of tracks as well!
The entire five-song EP weaves a story about how life truly is the opposite of a fairytale. The story of overcoming obstacles by finding the truth that resides within. Laura hopes this EP solidifies her presence as a songwriter and showcase the talents of the musicians in the Upstate, while recognizing the mentors she was able to work with, to create these songs.
The EP will be released, and available on all streaming platforms beginning March 23rd, 2023
Post EP release, Laura is looking forward to attending the Don Gibson singer-songwriter competition in April as a member of the NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association). Fans of Barleycove will also enjoy Delaney’s “Sunday Songwriters” event with host, Jamison Smith, in May where Laura will be one of the featured artists.

'Always With Me' is the second release for barleycove.  These nine songs were written over the past four years during Laura's participation in an ongoing Songwriter's Series offered through the Peace Center, led by Edwin McCain and Maia Sharp.  It was there she also met songwriters, Lindsay Brazell and L.C. Branch.  L.C. Branch  collaborated on many songs with this project and also helped as producer.  Maia contributed her musical gifts on the songs, "See Through You" and "Lost Bird".  "Lost Bird" is a special song inspired by the life of Zintkala Nuni.  Laura was so moved after reading her biography to seek the blessing from the Lakota tribe to share her story through song and dedicate this album to the Lakota Nation.  John Martin engineered, mixed and mastered the album at Sit-N-Spin Studios in Greenville, SC.

'Release' was the first album created by barleycove in the spirit of the singer-songwriter, concept albums of the 70s. The album takes on the journey of an individual as an allegory for all of us in our struggle to understand relationships, ideologies, and life, in general. All songs leading to the concept of the importance to live in the present, "releasing" the past and the future, in order to find inner peace. There is no doubt that you will hear the echoes of the seventies' influences of Elton John, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Heart, and many more throughout the album. The album was recorded and engineered by up-and-coming producer, Mike Dove, of Yellow Mama Music in South Carolina. The mixing was completed by the talented, Mike Post, of the Pie and Tart Shop. The exceptional, Peter Malick, completed the mastering of the tracks for the band .The other tracks on the site are the demo songs recorded early on with Josh Kaler at Hello Telescope in Charleston, SC.
